The File Security Metrics dashboard delivers powerful insights into file-level NTFS permissions across your storage systems. View summary statistics including total files scanned, files reported with permission concerns, non-inheriting files, overexposed files, and total data volume analyzed - all at a glance.

File Age Analysis

Understand the age distribution of files with permission concerns using the File Age Analysis tab. Files are categorized into age buckets to help identify stale data, recent activity patterns, and potential candidates for archival or cleanup. The detailed Year view provides granular historical data for forensics and compliance analysis, revealing when permission issues were introduced.

File Types & Locations

The File Types & Locations tab reveals which file extensions appear most frequently in your permission reports. This analysis can expose patterns such as legacy document formats or specific application data with security issues. The Top Folders list identifies permission hotspot directories - folders containing the most reported files - helping you prioritize remediation efforts where they'll have the greatest impact.

Understanding File Metrics

Non-inheriting files represent deviations from NTFS best practices. While sometimes necessary, high counts may indicate permission sprawl and increased maintenance complexity. Overexposed files are those with permissions granting broader access than their parent folder - these files may be accessible to users who shouldn't have access, representing potential security risks requiring immediate attention.
