FILE OWNERS REPORT
The File Owners Report provides a hierarchical analysis of disk space consumption organized by file owner and file type. Quickly identify which users own the most data, understand their storage patterns, and pinpoint opportunities for cleanup or policy enforcement across your Windows file systems.
Owner-Level Analysis
The report displays each file owner with key metrics: total size consumed with visual data bars for easy comparison, file count, number of distinct file types, and the dominant file type owned by that user. The dominance concentration percentage shows how much of each owner's storage is consumed by their most common file type - helping identify users with specialized storage patterns versus those with diverse file collections.
Expandable File Type Details
Expand any owner row to reveal a detailed breakdown of their files by type. Each file extension shows its individual size contribution and file count, sorted alphabetically for easy scanning. This hierarchical view makes it simple to answer questions like "How much space does John's video collection consume?" or "Which users have the most PST files?"
Configurable Metrics
The file owners report can be configured to prioritize either file size or file count as the primary metric. This flexibility allows you to focus on storage capacity consumption or file quantity depending on your analysis goals. The treemap granularity setting controls how many file types are displayed per owner in the companion visualization, letting you balance detail against visual clarity.
Storage Governance Use Cases
Use the file owners report to support storage chargeback initiatives by identifying department or user-level consumption. Find candidates for data archival by locating users with large concentrations of specific file types. Support compliance audits by understanding who owns sensitive file types across your organization. The report integrates with the treemap visualization for intuitive visual analysis.
